IPQ Errrrwinnnnn: Phase One Complete

Day’s Verse:

Be glad in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven.

Luke 6:23a

Congratulations to Lesley and me on finishing the first draft of our IQP! We successfully printed the 99 pages (minus seven, as we ran out of paper at the end) that make up our explanation of the market for Hollywood scripts adapted from books. Thankfully now that frees us up to… do more work! Yes, more work, for classes continue and indeed the IQP will continue as well. I am starting to understand why Ian didn’t post much during his project—while I’m typing this, I’m neglecting something else. Gah. Continue Reading >>

Day’s Verse:

Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man.

Luke 6:22

Yesterday in the Campus Center Lesley and I saw our IQP advisor. He looked odd not sitting there in his little office with small plastic firemen climbing all over a small plastic firetruck behind him. He and Lesley had already been chatting when I arrived, so that when he turned to me and said, “It sounds like you’re almost finished,” I looked at Lesley rather alarmedly. Finished with our IQP? Hardly. Maybe 60 – 75% done with the draft, but that is a draft the first one. But when Erwin heard “65 pages” drop from Lesley’s luscious lips, I think his brain processed it into “Too much reading,” causing a verdict of “Stop right there, you’re done” to pop out. Still, the reassurance of knowing that we cannot go wrong with Erwin at this point – he proclaimed us his “easiest group ever,” which may not be saying much as we suspect he has only advised one other group that was really terrible – as long as we finish this draft and revise it well. Also it turns out that Lesley’s boyfriend’s IQP was only 25 pages, which may be part of the miscommunication Lesley and I were having about length and extent of details necessary. Ian’s was 120 with numerous appendices. Thus I was thinking we would be sitting pretty at 75 or 80 pages. Continue Reading >>

Buy Got Marriage Shirts

At Ian’s behest, I have set up a store at cafepress.com for Got Marriage. Unfortunately its url is totally unmemorable, but here is a link. Once again, no price markups because the point is not to make money. Frankly, Ian and I just wanted cool clothes to wear that had our own web sites on it and we figured hey, why not make a shop? It’s free, it’s easy, and maybe (randomly) somebody else likes our site so much, or our logo so much, that they’ll want a shirt with Got Marriage? on it too! Continue Reading >>

Buy NQN Stuff!

You can now buy Not Quite Newsworthy stuff! I think this is really cool. I did NOT mark up any of the prices from what their base price was — this store is entirely for people who like the logo I designed or who want to help promote my site while making one cool fashion statement. A NQN shirt would also make a neat gift.

I bought a T-shirt for myself, and it’s very cool. Honestly, though, I would be amazed if anybody bought a shirt with my design on it. They aren’t expensive, but I have the feeling that nobody who reads this would pay for something like that… partly because so few people actually read this, and those who do are (no offense) not the type to ‘waste’ money on a cool but not very useful thing like a NQN shirt or Not Quite Newsworthy sweatshirt. Well, I can only hope! Continue Reading >>

Do What Now?

Day’s Verse:

Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.

Luke 6:21b

On Not Quite Newsworthy today: who to blame the obesity epidemic on, the rare Pacific Northwest tree octopus, and much more. Check it out today!

I bought a $14 tree octopus shirt. I hope that doesn’t come back to bite me as a waste of money, but it’s so cool! Also Calc continues to confound me; I just am not getting it, and my motivation level remains low. Ian has been working hard in the Spin Lab while I ignore our IQP briefly to do two writing assignmens and more math. I’m not sure if I should take Calc 2 next semester; it is not required for my major and if I have this much trouble in Calc 1… it makes me feel kind of dumb, to struggle for hours over problems that kids in my class do in 3 lines and 5 minutes. Also I wish our math TA knew some English. Continue Reading >>

The Weather Is Over Me

Day’s Verse:

Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied.

Luke 6:21a

Apparently my immune system could not handle exposure direct exposure to three colds within 48 hours of each other (and who knows how many others indirectly through touching door handles, etc). I have succumbed to a cold of some sort and my effectiveness has dropped substantially. But at least the common cold is a cute guy. So I will spend the day in our quiet, dark room working on my Writing assignment, then math, then IQP. Body, kick that little blue cold’s butt quickly! Continue Reading >>

Yay Archives Page!

Day’s Verse:

Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of heaven.

Luke 6:20

Ian has cleverly manipulated Blogger and php protocol to get me an awesome working Archives page on Not Quite Newsworthy. Check it out and you will have to agree with Ian when he says, “YesI’mawesome!”

Work is progressing on the IQP. Lesley did a great job last night, writing 12 pages while I watched Star Trek: First Contact and made chocolate chip cookies while chatting with Tiffany on the phone for 2 bars of power. Also we had an inteview with one Chris Green from the Producers Guild of America. He described his job as being the “voice of the guild,” and he shared such an abundance of information with us it took up 5 typed single-spaced pages to get everything down. We are very excited about this. Continue Reading >>
