Day’s Verse:

“I am going the way of all the earth. Be strong, therefore, and show yourself a man. Keep the charge of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways…”

1 Kings 2:2-3

I am officially grossed out. We have killed four centipedes (one escaped) since we got back to the apartment – big, long-legged, fast-moving creatures that make me want to leave permanently. I don’t gross out easily; I kill big spiders all the time. It’s part of living in the basement. But this is the last straw. I CANNOT STAND having long, creepy, scuttling arthropods lurking in cracks and crannies; everywhere I go now I expect to see them swarming. Though I know they can’t bite, still… And the best part is they’re very common in basements! Treatment: drying out and cleaning the place up, which are both physically impossible for this apartment. I hope they all go the way of everything on earth soon, because if they do not, I think I will via a heart attack some time I see one.

Is there any possible way to clean out all the damp sheltering places in here? I cannot imagine. EEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

Here’s something I don’t get. You do all this work even to be considered a candidate and put in the Voters’ Pamphlet. Why would you include a poorly-written paragraph or two about the policies you would instigate?

  1. I’m with you as far as centipedes go — yuk!
However, speaking of dampness reminds me that for RVs there is this chemical dehumidifier stuff that might help you guys. You buy it in little packets of granuels (sp?) and put it in a special carrier that has a sort of basket on top and cup on the bottom. The chemical takes the water from the air and drips it into the cup, which you then have to empty every couple of days (or a week or whatever, depending on how damp it is.) You might be able to get it at a hardware store. Unfortunately, I don’t know what it’s called.

  2. Along Gary’s idea, they sell the sorta bulky ones for rooms (hum/dehum), but this is an entire basement (is it bigger than a room size?) so I wouldn’t know if you’d have to go big on this.

We’ve made peace with the centipedes by me. They get a corner next to storage and the ones that crawl outside and freak out my mum are not skooshed, but sent outside for time out. If things were murdered for looking gross, well, extrapolate that however you please.
