Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am pining away; heal me, O Lord, for my bones are dismayed.
This morning I lit the candle on our table before starting my devotional. I noticed a few charred bits remained from some toothpicks we adventurously incinerated before break, so I pulled one out. Imagine my surprise when, flipping the toothpick-remains over, I saw that the underside – the side in the wax – remained clean and untouched. Then it came to me that people are not all too different from that burned toothpick; even in the roughest times, times you think it’s all over and gone, there’s always something new that survives. And God has the power to draw us out of the firey hot wax, to flip us over, and to expose the white untouched side of ourselves. He even has the power that I lacked – to remake the match entirely, start it completely fresh even if we think we’ve completely our lives burned up. No life is too far astray for the Savior to renew.
P.S. – Ian and I counted up my classes last night and it looks like I will graduate next year without overloading!
