Day’s Verse:
You will not be afraid of the terror by night,or of the arrow that flies by day;
Of the pestilence tht stalks in darkness, of the destruction that lays waste at noon.

Psalm 91:5-6

I have caught some really nasty bug. It started last night with a kind of sore throat that has progressed into a feeling of knife-like swallowing. I did go to church, but just before my nose also started running. Now it is a snot-faucet I cannot turn off, but I also hate to breathe through my mouth because of the extreme pain of my throat. After church I climbed into bed and fell asleep, only waking to blow my nose so I can breathe. That alone convinces me I am definitely sick – I never sleep at 1:00 in the afternoon. Ugh.

I hope I don’t have strep, or anything that means I have to go to a doctor’s here. I also hope I can make it to work tomorrow. Who gets horribly sick like this in the summer? And abroad, too. Times like these makes me wish I was still little, with Mom there to tell me I would feel better soon, to encourage me to stip water or slurp a bit of cooling sherbet. This room is very alone.

  1. I’ve been sick too. Though I think it was actually allergies and not a cold, and I’m mostly better now. But yeah, it sucks being sick in the summer.

  2. For what it’s worth, I think there are germs abroad that are new to us. I always get sick when I go to Australia. Drink lots of fluids and rest–call in sick if necessary. In books like “Little Women” they always talk about having a “summer cold.” I guess you are just very genteel. 🙂

  3. If you want I still have some cough drops left over from when I had strep. They made my throat feel better, so you’re more than welcome to them. Sadly, I don’t have a whole lot of them.
