Day’s Verse:
Do not be excessively righteous and do not be overly wise. Why should you ruin yourself?
Do not be excessively wicked and do not be a fool. Why should you die before your time?

Ecclesiastes 7:16-17

In Geology yesterday we started by talking about the universe, how it came into being, how our solar system eventually formed, and eventually the way earth came to circle the sun with its cozy lunar companion. Turns out that is all wrong! Oh yes, Ian pointed me towards a fine web site called Fixed Earth that explains how everything the scientific establishment has taught us to believe is all lies. I encourage you, my fine and intelligent readers, to explore the site a bit – read its rantings, discover why the internet can be such a valuable and amusing playground. You don’t meet people who think these crazy things everyday, but the internet is the perfect place to foster these kinds of long diatribes that are at least good for a chuckle. If you want real science news, though I recommend checking out the fledgling SciBite, started by Ben and Ryan. They are collecting interesting science tidbits there, and have graciously allowed me to add my two cents in whenever I find something worthwhile.

What a long day yesterday, even without starting tutoring at 9:00! First Geology, which isn’t exactly the “rocks for jocks” I expected. A new professor, the Irish husband of our new Provost, has taken over the class and totally revamped it. It looks like significantly more work than I expected. Principles of Ecology followed, and again: I anticipate plenty of work, not only in terms of reading the book, from the class. Still, I like Ecology well enough…I think… Next up was Bioethics, and I immediately enjoyed myself. Wonderful professor, he talked in the most intelligent way I’ve heard anybody speak in possibly years. He clearly chose each word carefully; and the topic sounds fascinating enough. Finally I trundled to Creative Writing, where the professor amused us for two hours. We did no particular work that class, but I did receive syllabi from all my professors. How I’m going to survive this term, God only knows.

And I want to do NaNoWriMo on top of that! I’m thinking a bunch of short stories this time, so even if I don’t make the 50,000 word goal by the end of November, I’ll have some completed stories. I’m also hoping that I can combine NaNoWriMo and Creative Writing a bit. We’ll see how things go. I’m planning on posting my NaNoWriMo stuff on this blog, so expect my posts to change in nature a lot starting November 1. Story time!

  1. I’m thinking a lot of vignettes that may/may not tie into one big story. What do you think? 5 10,000-word stories, or 10 5,000-word stories… or 1,000 50 word stories! Yeah!

  2. If you can do 1000 50-word stories, I will petition the world to name a whole genre after you. Then you can give seminars, and you’ll hear people on the subway saying “I read the greatest katie the other day!”
