Day’s Verse:
And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.”
Revelation 21:5

Ah, 2006 – the 21st century – how futuristic it sounds. Yet here we are, starting that very year off! We have welcomed it in with parties galore: Christmas Eve at the Fergusons; Christmas Day; Read-Aloud Party with my family; Ben and Lisa’s Tween Party; New Year’s Eve with the McCurleys (old friends of Ian’s); and now New Year’s Day with the McCreerys (friends of my mom’s). That’s pretty much all the partying we can take for now… Certainly all the partying my stomach can take. All the delicious nibbly food goes down so easily, but then it sticks around easily too. I heard that every year a normal person gains 1 lb during the holiday season. That builds up! But we also have played lots of fun games: Apples to Apples, Rummy Royal, The Pit (a stock market trading game, much more fun than it sounds), Scene It, and more that I can’t think of. Ian and I have particularly enjoyed spending time with our married friends, feeling more comfortable as a couple than we ever do at WPI among the single people at CBF.
How good it’s been to see good friends again, those people you can be you with and not worry about what they think. How good, and how sad, to tell them we’re staying in New England for years to come. Many of them are leaving today or tomorrow, and God only knows when we’ll meet again. Yet by His grace we will, and until then I trust He’ll keep us all safe and sound. Happy New Year, all!
