Too Early?

Day’s Verse:
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes… For in it, the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith

Sliding ReflectionsIt was artichoke slices. I tend to avoid artichokes unless they have been mixed in with other stronger flavors and textures.

What I wonder now, though, is: Is it too early to start thinking about food at 9:15? I ate breakfast three hours ago, and by 10:00 or 10:30 I seriously could eat an elephant (definitely larger than horse-sized hunger). Continue Reading >>

One of These Things Does Not Belong

Day’s Verse:
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.

Ian and I went nuts for dinner. Oh, we only had sandwiches…but what sandwiches! The plan started so simple, but how could I resist piling on more and more wonderful ingredients? Soon our sandwiches had reached a height almost unmatchable by the mouth — which also provided us with amusing face-contortions on the other person as we ate as well. Your challenge is to guess: Which one of these ingredients did I not eat on my sandwich for dinner? Continue Reading >>

Day’s Verse:
Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and in truth.

Refraction Planet

Improper handling of documents ultimately could prove to be detrimental to the Company and to individual employees.

I read this in a PDF about document handling and although it seemed inoccuous at first, as I thought about it I felt rather nervous. It seems there are all sorts of ways to bring down detriment upon my head, including but not limited to keeping papers too long and disposing of documents incorrectly. Just so long as I learn about these by reading rather than personal experience, everything will stay OK. Continue Reading >>

Day’s Verse:
The whole earth is at rest and is quiet;
They break forth into shouts of joy.

Red, Black, and ReflectionsToday’s title comes from a word coined by one of the scientists here. As you might guess, English is not her first language.

Last night I decided to make frozen chocolate chip cookie dough balls. This idea has been rolling around in my head for a while, and while talking on the phone with my mother I finally decided to go for it. Unfortunately as I assembled my troops, I realized that our artillery had taken off entirely: No eggs! Continue Reading >>

A Roundhouse Kick to the Wit

Day’s Verse:
He put a new song in my mouth,
A hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear
And put their trust in the Lord.
Blessed is the man
Who makes the LORD his trust,
Who does not look to the proud,
Who those who turn aside to false gods.

The WorldI can’t remember if I’ve told this story on my blog or not, but it’s so good you could all bear reading it again anyway. The story takes place about four months ago, in my Philosophy and the Environment class, and I consider it one of the most humorous experiences I had during my entire college career. Only at CRL…

Day’s Verse:
I waited patiently for the Lord;
And He inclined to me and heard my cry.
He brought me out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay,
And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.

Psalm 40:1-2

…would you hear this delightful conversation when passing by the front entrance:

Delivery guy [impatiently]: “…and nobody’s there yet.”
Security guard: “OK, I’ll get a guy out there.”
Delivery guy: “ ’Cause I’ve got other deliveries to make today.”
Security guard: “What’re you delivering here?”
Delivery guy: “Three 55-gallon drums of urine from Gerbadyme* Laboratories.” Continue Reading >>

SOP Stands for Somnolent & Obfuscated Papers

Day’s Verse:
Bug godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires taht plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.
1 Tim. 6:6-10

This morning’s work revolved primarily around reading SOPs. When I stopped I had read 20 documents ranging from three to 30 pages long, and in the main having a quality of writing worthy of a college freshman (maybe). Thankfully every occasionally one came up that amused me, such as: Continue Reading >>
