Day’s Verse:
And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” but she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was.

Paper TossingAs part of celebrating the Christmas season, my coworkers have tuned our radio to WSRS, a station playing only Christmas music between now and the 25th. This seemed like such a nice idea at first, and I greatly enjoyed myself greatly that first evening we had the radio on.

The next day we came in, turned the radio on, and decorated our area with Christmas lights and all sorts of other Christmassy paraphernalia. It took us quite a while transition from that to work, and through it all the radio played Christmas songs.

All day, Holly Jolly Christmas followed by Frosty the Snowman followed by Here Comes Santy Claus followed by Santa Baby followed by Mary, Did You Know? followed by It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas followed by Christmas Shoes followed by Feliz Navidad followed by Dominic the Christmas Donkey… At which point I suddenly realize that it is NOT the happiest season of the year, nor do I desire to have a holly jolly Christmas, nor do I care about mistletoe or holly. In fact, the last two and a half days of the same songs (by different artists) repeating endlessly has cured me of any desire to hear secular Christmas ever again.

If I hear Holly Jolly Christmas one more time, I swear: I cannot be responsible for my actions. So just watch out.

  1. I am constantly changing the radio channels in the car when those insipid Christmas songs come on. I hope you can take it–it’s a long ways to Christmas still.

  2. hahah I’ve had my radio tuned to 103.3 they play Christmas music 24/7 from Thanksgiving to Christmas day. I’m having a similar experience. The first few days I was all excited, but every time I’m in my car at 5 o’clock I hear ‘Dominic the Italian Christmas Donkey’ and I die a little inside…

I had never heard that song until this year and I’m pretty sure I could have gone the rest of my life not having heard it.

    hee haw!!

  3. “Dominic the Italian Christmas Donkey?!!!” Is that an east coast thing? I’m pretty sure I don’t want to hear that one just from the title.

And. . . I am pretty seriously proud that you liked my word!

  4. I just want to explain to everyone, “It’s not Christmas yet! It’s Advent!”

No red and green–yet. This is purple season.

No Christmas songs. Between now and the 25th, the correct musical fare is O Come O Come Emmanuel, People Look East, Of The Father’s Love Begotten, and Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus.

I am a purist about these things. Second candle on Sunday.
