Day’?s Verse:
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
1 Peter 3:3-4

Apparently not only does vegging out in front of the TV playing video games or watching movies make you unhealthy, but it also dulls interest in taking care of the environment. Researchers found that people who don’t spend much time outside don’t care about the outdoors — hardly revolutionary, but a grim reminder of why our society sees more value in the oil beneath the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge than in the refuge itself.

Now get off the computer, go outside, and play!

PS – I voted at the polls for the first time ever. Is the median age of the poll administrators usually 75 years old?

  1. We went outside today! The Environmental Science students learned how to – and how not to – “dress for the weather” when it is rainy, 40 degrees, with wind gusts to 40mph. Our goals for the day: leave all your electronics in the classroom, walk no more than two abreast along the roadside, walk six blocks in the rain, keep your paperwork dry, have your meter stick and hand lenses intact when you return to class, keep control of both ends of the meter stick, and find the following locations: a roadway with plants growing nearby, a sidewalk with plants growing in the cracks, and a parking median strip between a sidewalk and the road. Yeah! Sweet success. Now we go back to those locations on Thursday to actually observe closely, collect data, and answer questions re: “sidewalk ecology”.

Regarding the median age of poll workers: these are people who probably volunteer for all kinds of community service, bless their hearts. We only see them clearly in situations like election day.

  2. Were all the students from out of state? Seriously, it’s not like 40 degrees, rain, and wind are unusual weather conditions for Washington.

  3. Well, this is certainly not my rocket science class. We start pretty slowly since people add/drop classes like this for the first two weeks of school.
Just weaning HS students of their electronic devices and treating the withdrawal symptoms takes careful planning and management!
