Cape Cod Getaway: A Long Overview

~~~
Day’?s Verse:
There’s more to come: We continue to shout our praise even when we’re hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. In alert expectancy such as this, we’re never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary—we can’t round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit!
National MS Society: Cape Cod Getaway Day 2
~~~
Day’?s Verse:
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
2nd Timothy 4:7-8

I’m pleased to report that Katie successfully completed day 1 of the Cape Cod Getaway in six hours. She arrived at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy shortly after 1:30 PM. Unfortunately we didn’t take any pictures of her when she arrived (and I forgot to get the pictures off of my cell phone before she left this morning). However, a photography company is providing free pictures to all the riders so by the end of next week we should be able to link to pictures of Katie finisher her rides. I arrived around 12:30 (I was pretty sure she wouldn’t be there yet) so I could stand alongside victory lane and cheer for Katie as she finished the 75 miles. She was surprised when I shouted out “Go Katie!”. Continue Reading >>

Day’?s Verse:
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:29-31

Ian here. After months of anticipation, Katie has finally embarked on her two day, 150 mile journey from Quincy to Provincetown. In the end she raised $2,500.01 for the national MS society. I think that’s quite an achievement. (Full disclosure: I donated an extra $45 to push her over the $2,500 mark). Continue Reading >>

This and That

Day’?s Verse:
Looking about at those who were sitting around Him, He said, “Behold, My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of God, he is My brother and sister and mother.”
Mark 3:34-35

This post will be bits and pieces of whatever I think of. First, a somewhat funny vignette from my workplace:

Coworker X came over to give me a CD. X had iPod earbuds in; X also noticed I was munching trail mix.
X: DID YOU MAKE YOUR OWN SNACK MIX?
Me: [looking at a paper] It’s trail mix.
X: DID YOU MAKE YOUR OWN SNACK MIX?
Me: YEP.
X: [Nods]
[Pause]
Me: YOU SHOULD TAKE AN EARBUD OUT WHEN YOU’RE TALKING. [makes motion of taking something out of my ear]
X [irritated]: I CAN HEAR YOU JUST FINE! Continue Reading >>

Another 15 Minutes!

Day’?s Verse:
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
Psalm 18:2

Hey hey hey! I’?m famous again, this time in the Hudson Sun (although I’ve never heard of the team they say I’m on…whatever), for doing the MS Cape Cod Getaway. Check it out!

If you’re wondering why I say “again,” you clearly don’t remember my brief appearance in the Worcester Business Journal article about bike commuting and the Worcester commuter rail last year. Continue Reading >>

Glug, Glug

Day’?s Verse:
Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.
Proverbs 4:7

I read that when you’?re exercising, water can go from your stomach to your skin in as little as seven minutes. How do they know that?!

I also calculated that on a normal day I need to consume 2,400 calories; 55% to 65% of those should be carbs. Since I love carbohydrates in pretty much all shapes and forms, this is really no hardship. Also since fruit counts as carbs pretty often, and we’?re inching into fruit season around here. Fruit smoothies, here I come! Continue Reading >>

On My Mind Lately

~~~
Day’?s Verse:
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
Isaiah 40:28-29
