Day’s Verse:
Be generous. Give to the poor. Get yourselves a bank that can’t go bankrupt, a bank in heaven far from bankrobbers, safe from embezzlers, a bank you can bank on. It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.
Luke 12:33-34

I like Callahan State Park. Really, I do. I love that we have an entrance a mere two miles from our apartment. Its location smack in the middle of the Metro West suburbs of Boston enhance the delightfulness of its gentle wooded trails. The small lily-padded ponds, the tree-lined rock walls left over from another age, and the relatively sparse number of users all contribute to its charm. Nestled among the green rolling hills of horse farms, new neighborhood developments, and light commercial buildings, the park provides an unexpectedly deep, quiet, lovely green space enjoyed alike by mountain bicyclists, walkers (calling it hiking might be a tad generous), and dog owners exercising their pets off-leash.

However. The bugs. Our first visit, swarms of mosquitoes beyond counting followed us persistently. We swatted and flapped our hands and walked briskly, but nothing deterred them. Our second visit, I brought Jungle Juice (the bug repellent, not the alcoholic beverage) and applied it to our ankles and shoes and to the top of my hat to deter ticks. However, the mosquito population hardly made an appearance that I could see, so we walked without serious application of repellent.

Which explains, I suppose, why a dastardly mosquito somehow bit me right in the middle of my forehead, just above my eyebrows. For me, facial mosquito bites tend to swell way more than regular ones. So now I have a gigantic (silver-dollar or larger), swollen, extremely itchy bug bite right were I can’t itch it. I can only pray that it subsides more quickly than a normal mosquito bite.

  1. Hey, I’m sorry MB and I couldn’t stay longer at church yesterday; I had to catch a train. It was great to chat with you, though — and I will prioritize some time before you move for further hanging out!
