I just got the news that my Grandpa Sullivan, my Dad’s father, passed away an hour ago.
This is not totally unexpected; when he went into hospice care on Monday we knew it was a matter of days. Now his many and varied experiences — living through the Great Depression, serving in the Navy in World War II, working for Boeing for a long career, raising two sons and caring for my schizophrenic grandma, playing chess and bridge, keeping an eagle eye on the financial situation — are all done. I wish I had known him better. Goodbye, Grandpa. I hope I will see you again some day.
