Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Without further ado, here are the Mercury (if you’re Roman) or Hermes (if you’re Greek) wings I made for my bike helmet to celebrate Tour de Fat tomorrow.
Making the wings involved pre-glittered felt (unless I’m sorely mistaken 90% of the glitter came off the felt in my bag on the way from the store home, so I don’t expect the body of the wings to actually regain much sparkle, alas), poster board, cardboard, pipe cleaners, and tons of craft glue, both glittery and normal. I’m quite pleased with the result; they stayed on for a short 2.5-mile test ride, so I’m hoping they’ll hang on for the 17-mile ride to Gasworks Park tomorrow morning. Come see me there, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. You’ll know me by the helmet.
