Day’s Verse:
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
Philippians 4:4

Yesterday I went to my first haircut in over a year. The guy measured my hair: 19 inches long, after cutting. I commented that I wondered how long it would get, and he said, “Oh, I’ve studied that. Coarser hair can grow longer than fine hair because the ends last much longer. The problem is that after years and years, the ends start splitting, so eventually the hair reaches an equilibrium between rate of growing at the roots and rate of breaking off at the ends.” (OK, he didn’t use ‘equilibrium,’ but that’s the general idea he imparted.) That said, he went on to estimate that my hair could probably grow down past my posterior, into the 36-inch range.

That is a lot of hair.

Even now I’ve started braiding it at night to avoid hassles; I can’t imagine dealing with another 17 inches. But now it’s a challenge, so I think I’ll see how long I can grow it, and then cut it off for Locks of Love.
