Sunny-day Walk

image

Going on a Sunday morning family mini-hike. There are some secret green spaces and an unofficial network of trails  through them near our house. They feel delightfully cool and shady on a hot day. Also, Benji doesn’t like wearing his hat, so this way he still gets sun protection.

See? Grumpy face! …although he also grinds his teeth, which gives him a strangely lantern-jawed look.

Here is Ian heroically carrying the backpack. I have strict orders not to backpack with the baby unless I want to injure my back more. So all Benji-carrying goes to someone else. This has the side-benefit of making Benji taller than me, which he finds funny (for about 30 seconds, anyway). Continue Reading >>

Cause & Effect

The gas station near our house just reopened after renovation and is offering free coffee to lure in customers.

Coffee cups discarded everywhere. I saw these all on our short walk this morning. Too bad they didn’t think about what people might do with the cups after enjoying the free coffee.

This is just one small problem that reflects a much larger question that we, as a society, have not yet addressed with any seriousness: What responsibility do companies have for their products after they’re sold? Continue Reading >>

Things that make me go “gah”

Our behind-the-back neighbors, who have high-school aged kids, are having a party. I’m all for parties and having fun with friends, don’t get me wrong, but this crowd of solidly middle-aged folks are playing a drinking game.

Benji also for to have a little quiet time with my Uncle Gerard, who is up in Seattle for a quick visit. Gotta get in his French quota somehow.

It was a lovely evening at Juanita Bay Park. Especially lovely to see a mommy duck with her sleeping ducklings all in a downy pile.

Kiddie Pool

Day’s Verse:
“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us[a] from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”
Daniel 3:17-18

And by “pool” I mean large plastic bin containing three inches of water. Yes. Well, this is what we do on hot sunny days, apparently: sit in warm water wearing all our clothes playing with the purple ball. Continue Reading >>

Baby and Beach

On Tuesday, Benji dipped his toes into Lake Washington for the first time. He ended up smiling (above), but really wasn’t so sure to start:

However, he IS sure of what to do with socks while we’re out for a walk.

Suck on them. Duh.
