High-Calorie Smoothies

Perhaps you saw this title and thought: Who would want high-calorie anything? Usually we only hear about lowering calories, watching caloric intake and cutting back. A recent issue of Bicycling magazine actually suggested cyclists replace cookies with whole-wheat waffles. PUH-LEEZ! That may be healthier, but I don’t eat cookies for health; I eat them for enjoyment.

Smoothies, however, we usually do eat for health. They’re a great way to get fruits and even some veggies in a tasty, healthy, quick-to-consume snack. They’re versatile and forgiving, and you can toss in almost anything with happy results. For athletes – and, as it turns out, nursing moms – they can also provide an excellent way of consuming the extra calories and/or fats needed to stay healthy (and, in our case, produce enough milk). 27 Years: Pass the Shortcake

Day’s Verse:
“Before I shaped you in the womb,

Well, I’m happy to say that since the Rapture didn’t happen, I get to turn 27 after all. What a relief. Of course, there’s something kind of gloomy about turning 27 years old — it feels like a big step closer to 30; it’s not prime, although it should be (7, 17, 37, and 47 are all prime); it’s not a milestone in any way. Mexican Corn Chowder Recipe

What do you do when you wake up at 3:00 am and your brain clicks into gear immediately? I sometimes put myself back to sleep by imagining, in detail, the different routes I’ve commuted on. That didn’t work this morning, so I got up at started a batch of no-knead bread (when you start it at 3:25 am, even bread that takes 12 to 20 hours of rising could work for dinner that night).
