It’s Twins!

Day’s Verse:
So this is my prayer: that your love will flourish and that you will not only love much but well. Learn to love appropriately. You need to use your head and test your feelings so that your love is sincere and intelligent, not sentimental gush.
Philippians 1:9-10

OK, don’t get your panties in a twist; we’re not having any kids yet. I’m talking about the appliance delivery we took today.

Here they Come!

Washer & Dryer

Yep, that’s our new washer and dryer, happily ensconced in their new home in our laundry room. Aren’t they cute? Now we can wash and dry our clothes at our home, which means we have to come up with some other excuse to hang out with my parents for a few hours every week. Continue Reading >>

Yoick That In There

Day’s Verse:
And so I insist—and God backs me up on this—that there be no going along with the crowd, the empty-headed, mindless crowd. They’ve refused for so long to deal with God that they’ve lost touch not only with God but with reality itself. They can’t think straight anymore.
Ephesians 4:17-18

We ordered a washer and dryer. Due to some incredibly irritating quirks of our laundry room*, we could not be sure a front-loading washer and dryer would fit and work in the room. I am sad about this because I had my heart set on super-high efficiency front-loading machines. Instead we bought a Whirlpool Cabrio 7300 (and matching dryer), which was Consumer Report’s overall highest-rated top-loading washer. Also, salesmen at 3 different appliance stores directed us to this washer after hearing about our laundry room layout — and, seeing as none of them gave us any other consistent advice, that’s really astonishing. My biggest regret is the place we bought it, which shall remain unnamed. The salesman could have come straight off a used car lot, and after the fact I felt manipulated by his sneaky high-pressure salesman tactics. However, I don’t think we got fleeced, and we’ll soon have a way of washing our clothes at our own home, so I’m going to accept our choice and not agonize about it anymore. Continue Reading >>

Shopping Is My Least-Favorite Thing

Day’s Verse:
Turning his head, Peter noticed the disciple Jesus loved following right behind. When Peter noticed him, he asked Jesus, “Master, what’s going to happen to him?”
Jesus said, “If I want him to live until I come again, what’s that to you? You—follow me.”

John 21:2-22 (context)

…Yet Ian and I spent most of Saturday shopping. We started by laying on a bunch of different mattresses; then we moved on to poking buttons and twisting knobs on different washer/dryer sets; then we proceeded to pantomime vacuuming with various vacuum; and we finished off the set by sitting on a variety of extraordinarily expensive stools. During this interlude, we learned the following: Continue Reading >>
