Twenty-five percent of my grade in the Study of Writing hinges on my analysis of the back of two cereal boxes. I carefully examined them, trying to discern what I could learn about the culture and identities of Cheerios-buyers from the words on the back of the box. What would the evil and sadistic Gunther Kress think of it? What social conflicts would he find between Müesli-eaters and Cheerios-eaters? Why would we care?
