An Open Letter to All Readers

Day’s Verse:
“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”
Matthew 3:17
~~~
Dear Readers,
While reading Life of the Beloved, I felt that I needed to write this to you. You don’t all believe what I believe; some of you aren’t sure what to believe but some of you are confident that I have misplaced my faith and there is no God. This post is about God and about you, but please don’t give up on it if you think I’m all wrong. I believe the message will speak to you anyway, and we as a generation, as a culture, as a people, as a world, need to hear words like these more often. Continue Reading >>
Irish Relatives in England?
~~~
Day’s Verse:
In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord; in the night my hand was stretched without weariness; my soul refused to be comforted. When I remember God, then I am disturbed; when I sigh, then my spirit grows faint.
Psalm 77:2-4
~~~
It seems I may meet some of my distant Irish relatives, some of whom now live in England. Although it would be essentially meeting strangers – our closest link being my great-grandmother Toohey who came from Ireland to California – still I think meeting them could be interesting. Brompton Oratory and Hyde Park
~~~
Day’s Verse:
Yet God is my king from of old, who works deeds of deliverance in the midst of the earth.
Psalm 74:12
~~~
I went to the Brompton Oratory with Chris and Mike this morning for High Latin Mass. We met up with our advisor, John, and underwent quite the High Church experience, complete with three gold-robed officials (they had black hats but I don’t know their rank) and plenty of incense. They conducted the whole service in Latin except for the scripture readings; the congregation responded in Latin. The altar “boys” wore long black robes with white lacy shirt-things over top. Apparently their robes were especially lacy because Mary is their patron. It did make pretty much all other church services look like BBQs, left my jacket smelling of incense, and me feeling uncouth and provincial. Nobody’s ever even heard of my denomination, but these guys have centuries of tradition and millions of worshippers to back them. It was…quite an experience. I’m getting lots of those this trip. …And I Don’t Even Like Mushrooms
Day’s Verse:
Nevertheless I am continually with You; You have taken hold of my right hand.
Psalm 73:23
My bread went moldy yesterday, so today I went to the regular grocery store, the organic grocery store, and a bakery for my food. For breakfast I ate THE most delicious pastry of my entire life, craftsman made, and it only cost 70p. THE BEST, and I have no idea what it’s called. I also cashed in another £50 traveler’s check, but only got £47 for it because of the stupid fees. I needed cash because one of the group members and I made our slow way to a place called Portobello Road, a market that a random shopowner had recommended to us. I say slow because the major tube line near IES, the Circle and District lines, were closed for repairs. We had to take three tubes to get there, and so did everybody else. One tube station currently serves the whole area, and it’s insanely busy. Continue Reading >>
Picture & Quote
Day’s Verse:
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise Him in the heights! Prais Him, all His angels; praise Him, all His hosts! Praise Him, sun and moon; praise Him, all stars of light!
Psalm 148:1-3
This sign that Mom sent me has nothing to do with my post, except that it matches tone with the quote I intended to post last night but forgot about. I found the quote in the Mitcham Histories book and could not resist sharing it with you all:
Speed of erection was of the greatest importance… Continue Reading >>
The Great Public Transportation Fiasco, Part 2
~~~
Day’s Verse:
But as for me, I will hope continually, and will praise You yet more and more.
Psalm 71:14
~~~
What a day! Admittedly, 10 days have passed since the original transportation fiasco. In all honesty, I was probably due some crazy thing just because things’ve gone so smoothly of late. First, and minorly, I forgot the power cable to my computer, which meant I had 3 hours and 26 minutes of work before it completely ran out of juice. That, I figured, would work fine since I had to read more of my thrilling Mitcham History and also review the Non-Designer’s Design Book to create a handout of design tips to leave with my sponsors because I can’t design for every conceivable need. So I used the computer until about 2:00, when a little bubble popped up and informed me that my data would be lost if I didn’t recharge the battery soon. Then I figured it wouldn’t hurt to do something else, so I finished my work and read Mitcham Histories. Continue Reading >>
Walkees!
Day’s Verse:
Reproach has broken my heart and I am so sick. And I looked for sympathy, but there was none, and for comforters, I found none.
Psalm 69:20
~~~

Today could be described as a boom or a bust day; it went both ways. I intended to obtain marketing material for my sponsors to look at from three development trusts: Riverside Community Development Trust, Bow People’s Trust, and Bootstrap Enterprises. They did not look too far apart on the map, although I anticipated extensive tube-riding to travel between them. I went first to RCDT and easily found it…tightly locked up. Fortunately the walk had not been long, so I simply went back to the tube station and proceeded to the Bow People’s Trust. Continue Reading >>
