Day’s Verse:
Remember Him before the silver cord is broken and the golden bowl is crushed, the pitcher by the well is shattered and the wheel at the cistern is crushed then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.
Ecclesiastes 12:6-7

Firelit LookThat’s right, sports fans, we got our Internet up after many shenanigans (including an inept UPS failing to deliver our new modem, and instead asking us to drive to Chelmsford to retrieve it ourselves. Ha). I spent a long time on the phone with a Verizon tech guy who enunciated so poorly I could barely understand him. It reminded me of a scene from a Taproot play Ian and I went to this summer, where Southerners explained the pronounciation of words like “fawh-urk” — I knew this fellow, who at least didn’t sound Indian, must be speaking English to me even though I understood 1 in 5 words. Even after we finally overcame communication barriers and the DSL got all set up, then the Internet connection proved disappointingly slow: Like the offer of nice hot coffee after wanderiing for weeks waterless in the desert. Troubleshooting eventually revealed the source of the problem as faulty wiring in our oh-so-high-tech apartment, and a fix involves running a very long cable from the port in the living room into the office.

Much of the rest of the day felt almost equally inept. It started with a slow, short(er than I planned), painful, and sweaty run that left me feeling fat. The day then progressed to me driving to Worcester for lunch with Michelle (the only not remotely inept thing all day; we enjoyed a good talk and delicious, enormous, cheap sandwitches on the shore of Lake Quinsigamond), and later spending 45 minutes waiting for a pre-employment physical at Fallon Clinic that took about thirty seconds. Yes, I can touch my toes; no, my wrists have not started hurting when I type; yes, I can do a squat; no, my ears have not started oozing pus yet; yes, I can pee into a cup; no, I do not do drugs. Then I drove back in a thunderstorm and realized I had forgotten to do my other Worcester errand.

All this to explain that I have posted pictures from our camping trip on Flickr; you can see some here. I actually took 150 photos, but as per usual about a dozen turned out alright. Maybe I will also post some of the snapshots so you get a sense of the area. Would you look at those if I posted them?

My other reason for writing this was to ask: If I posted a long blog about our cross country drive, would you read it? Basically, should I waste my time on blogging the drive, or are you content with my comments thus far?

  1. It’s great to have you back! I, for one, would love to read the whole blog of your trip–and not just because I’m your MIL. Camping sounded pretty fun. Did Ian tell you that we went to Franconia Notch on The Big Trip? Love to you!

  2. Katie, So good to hear from you again on the net, missed it very much. I would of course read your report on your trip, Was the weather hot on the hike, that could account for you being tired as here hiking is never very warm. Miss you guys,we are settled in and I am beginning to feel better as long as I take my pills. Your Mom brought me a plant for the deck, very sweet of her, hope to see her somtime again. Love to you both, Grandma
