Did I mention Ian’s latest blog? Good stuff.

Rode yesterday in the snow for the first time. Thanks to lots of sand-and-salt treatment, the road was no slicker than if it had rained. No thanks to the sand-and-salt treatment, by the end of the ride my bike sported a thick layer of grime over its entire body, extending to my feet, legs, and up my back. I was wet and dirty, found road salt in my hair later, and my bike now has trouble shifting because of the filth in its gears and derailler. Nevertheless, it was warmer yesterday (20°) than today (16°), and the snow really played no significant role in the ride. Except for making everything prettier.

Today I tried wearing two layers of spandex pants plus my GoreTex pants — what a difference! My legs felt warm for the first time in ages. I will definitely keep that up on the extremely cold days.
