Dude, I’m Famous!!

Day’?s Verse:
It is better to listen to the rebuke of a wise man
Than for one to listen to the song of fools.

Ecclesiastes 7:5

Do you remember how a few weeks ago a dude from the Worcester Business Journal interviewed me on the train? He said on April 30 the article would come out, and sure enough, here it is. It even includes a rather weird picture of me in my nasty post-bike-ride state. Coolly enough, the guy in that series of photos, Nick, is a bike commuter friend of mine, too. I am jazzed! Munchy Conclusions

Day’?s Verse:
Then I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given him — for this is his lot. Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work — this is a gift of God.
Ecclesiastes 5:18-19

Today — well, actually yesterday — finishes off my week of keeping track of what I eat and when. The last week has only confirmed what I already suspected, namely that I eat fairly healthy with the exception of an overweening passion for cookies, and that I eat basically the same foods every day. I hear diets that incorporate a wider variety of foods tend to be healthier, but somehow I end up eating the same old things over and over. Look at yesterday, for example: Continue Reading >>

Giant Blood-Sucking Bats!

~~~
Day’?s Verse:
But these you may not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the black vulture, the red kite, the black kite, any kind of falcon, any kind of raven, the horned owl, the screech owl, the gull, any kind of hawk, the little owl, the great owl, the white owl, the desert owl, the osprey, the cormorant, the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe and the bat.
Deuteronomy 14:12-17
I copied this from a sticky-note I found on the window at work. We had left it open during the day to get some “fresh” Worcester air, and apparently nobody closed in in the evening… Continue Reading >>
Shout, Honk, Honk
Day’?s Verse:
When you see a cloud rising in the west, you immediately say, ‘A shower is coming,’ and so it turns out. And when you see a south wind blowing, you say ‘It will be a hot day,’ and it turns out that way. You hypocrites! You know how to analyze the appearance of the earth and the sky, but why do you not analyze this present time?
Luke 12:54-56
Riding my bike from the train station to work this morning, I was pulling up to a stop light when I noticed a car up ahead, stopped at that light, where the passenger had opened the door and was doing something. The light turned green before I had to slow down much, and the car had moved along by the time I drew near to where they had opened the door. I had moved on to thinking about other things when I looked down and, too late to swerve, saw the puddle of coffee that the passenger had dumped into the road. Needless to say I rode right through it, making that the first coffee-splatters my pants and bike have received. I felt rather peeved at those people for dumping their coffee there. Seriously, who does that? Continue Reading >>
Did I Mention COOKIES?
~~~
Day’?s Verse:
And I saw something else under the sun: In the place of judgment—wickedness was there, in the place of justice—wickedness was there.
Ecclesiastes 3:16

Let me preface this by saying this: Boy do I love chocolate chip cookies. Or cookies in general. If there was a way to have a strawberry shortcake cookie, that would be pretty much my ideal cookie. But for now I settle for cookies involving chocolate (this batch I made with Ghirardelli and Nestle chocolate chips). Which explains why my eating from yesterday features the word cookie so many times. Continue Reading >>

Sunday is for Cookies

~~~
Day’?s Verse:
Whatever is has already been, and what will be has been before; and God will call the past to account.
Ecclesiastes 3:15
~~~

Spoke 'n' WheelLet’s just call Sunday Cookie Day and leave it at that. I mean, we did go to church, lounged around in the heat — I finished My Sister’s Keeper — and watched Lady in the Water. In the evening pre-movie, I also did two loads of laundry and sent Ian off to hunter-gather cookie fixin’s, and that’s where everything went down food-wise.

I personally feel that at least 50% of the enjoyment of cookie-making comes from sampling it along the way. This conviction is the reason I don’t really go in for store-bought cookies, although those tend to taste quite delicious; plus I enjoy making cookies twice the size they call for. Who wants a cookie that’s actually one rounded spoonful? I form each cookie ball by hand, so they’re about the size of my palm. At least a few of these palm-fuls are sure to be diverted for a taste-test as I QC my cookies, which leads to yesterday’s eating. Continue Reading >>
