I have an annoying computer problem that, so far, I have only solved by restarting my computer. Here’?s the background. Often I have to print out a single page to a PDF, so I switch my printer to Acrobat printer. Then, of course, I forget that I did that, and I close the document. This sets my printer for the next document I open as Acrobat printer, too. When, a few minutes later, I print a coverletter, I go to Print and switch from Acrobat printer to normal printer. This problem happens immediately on the switch from PDF to normal printing:
The text gets all stretched out and weird on coverletters. When I do this same process with a CD label, however, the all text gets shrunk into one character’?s width per line, so I get a vertical line of letters all overlapping one another on the label. This drives me crazy, as you can imagine, because restarting this old beast takes a good 5 minutes. So I hope you’?ll excuse me while I go restart my computer. I need to print out a coverletter.
This looks to me like a printer driver problem. NOT the adobe driver, but whatever your actual printer is.
What I would guess is happening is that the driver is cheaping out and not making all of the required calls to re-initialize itself after the switch from the pdf printer to the physical printer. One way to test this would to rather than reboot, just delete the printer and then re-install it. If it works normally, then it probably is the re-init code. Won’t be much faster than rebooting, but at least you won’t have to end everything else.
