Chipmunks are taking over the world, or at least this little corner of it. This year they seem to have proliferated like never before, and now you see them popping out everywhere; no roadside bush or grass is complete without one chipmunk darting into or out of it. You see their little tails straight up as they zip across the road in daring (often fatally so) dashes towards The Other Side. Nary a ride goes by but I see at least a half-dozen chipmunks, or hear their rustling through roadside vegetation. Twice I almost have hit them; this morning I heard the rapid patter of the rodent’?s feet as it ran in front of me.
