I finally caved and allowed Ian to spend some of his hard-earned bonus money on buying me a digital SLR. After much research and discussion with the guy at LB Wheaton, I felt good about plunking down $620 for the Canon EOS Rebel XS, which received good reviews and was particularly known for high image quality. I always felt like the pictures I took with my old Canon S1 IS (and by old I mean old, for digital cameras — we bought it in October 2004) started to break down the closer you looked at them; they had numerous issues associated with small lenses and sensors. Only an SLR camera could address my complaints. Also, the upgrade to my camera was the Canon SX1 IS, which cost — gosh — $600. The Rebel XS cost the same amount. What did I have to lose?
